Danish on a Sunday: 'The Will' & 'A Royal Affair'

Twice a month - usually on the second and fourth Sunday of each month - we screen a Danish classic or a highly acclaimed new production with English subtitles. All of the films are presented in both English and Danish on the page www.cinemateket.dk/danish. Tickets are 65 DKK (40 DKK for members of the Cinematheque).

A Family Affair And A Royal Affair
‘The Will’ was bestowed with both a Bodil statuette and a CPH DOX award as the best Danish documentary of the year. When the wealthy grandfather of brothers Henrik and Christian dies, supposedly leaving them a huge fortune, they see it as a chance to get their wayward lives back on track. The promise of money opens up a can of worms in the family, though. ‘A Royal Affair’ is the gripping 18th century tale of brave idealists who risk everything in their pursuit of freedom for the people, but above all it is the story of a passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation. The film won two Silver Bear awards at the Berlin Film Festival and has so far been seen by more than half a million Danes.

Before each screening, we have a special offer of a coffee with Danish pastry (or a piece of cake) at Restaurant SULT. It costs only 40 DKK extra. All you need to do to benefit from this offer is to show your ticket for that day's Danish on a Sunday screening to the SULT staff.
