The Danish Film Institute works to ensure that Danish films are widely accessible – not least abroad. One of DFI's international partners in this endeavor are the Danish representations around the world.
Integral to the funding system are support programmes for promoting Danish films internationally. Through years of experience, the DFI festival team has built strong ties with major festival venues around the world.
Yet another important international collaboration consists of DFI's work with Danish representations and cultural institutes on initiatives that further the knowledge and experience of Danish films and cinema culture.
Annual film package
A main initiative in this collaboration is the annual film package.
Each year, the DFI composes a film package with DVDs of recent Danish feature films, short films and documentaries for the Danish representations to distribute among EU film festivals and other local, non-commercial film events. The DVDs carry English subtitles and are suited for public film screening.
The film package is renewed once a year, and the DFI sends them to the respective representations upon request, free of charge.
Each film title is accompanied by these materials:
- Stills from the film
- Director photo
- Press sheets in English with a short synopsis and credits
- Dialogue lists with the English subtitles
- Posters if available
- Sales overview of territories (for clearance of rights)
Events initiated by the representations
Given their first-hand knowledge of local trends and demands, the Danish representations might wish to initiate specific, tailor-made film events in their region. In these cases the representations are advised to contact the DFI festival team to discuss ideas and possibilities. Also, all inquiries from established international film festivals should be referred directly to the DFI.
