Hitting the mark internationally

COLLABORATION. Danish producers are increasingly aiming to find original projects when looking for international partners, says Noemi Ferrer Schwenk, international producer at the Danish Film Institute. As the success of 'The Square,' 'Thelma' and the two other Nordic Oscar candidates shows, they are hitting the mark.

First Film from 41Shadows

IN PRODUCTION. Thomas Borch Nielsen and Kirsten Skytte in November started filming their adaptation of Bjarne Reuter’s 'Kaptajn Bimse & Goggeletten,' the first Danish feature film production from 41Shadows, a distributor of international arthouse films since 2012.

Two Danish debut features selected for Sundance
FESTIVAL. Gustav Möller's 'The Guilty' and Isabella Eklöf's 'Holiday' are making their world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The two debut features will be competing in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition as two out of twelve titles selected from around the world.

NEW FEATURE. Kasper Torsting is helming Fridthjof Film’s new epic drama 'War & Love,' based on a true story from World War I.

New awards celebrating European animation
ANIMATION. European animation will have its own awards show when the European Animation Awards roll out the red carpet for the first time on 8 December. Producer Marie Bro of Dansk Tegnefilm, who is among the people behind the initiative, has long been calling for an exclusive event to celebrate European animation talent.
Two Danish talents among IDFA winners

IDFA. Simon Lereng Wilmont's 'The Distant Barking of Dogs' was honoured with the First Appearance Award at Wednesday's IDFA prize fest, while director Trine Laier's first game project 'Cosmic Top Secret' won the DocLab Award for Digital Storytelling.
