Hygge through the Ages
STREAMING. Hygge is hot. Barely pronounceable, the concept even made the shortlist for Word of the Year in the UK. But what does it mean? One way to learn how to hygge is to explore the historical footage, going as far back as 1899, on the Danish Film Institute's streaming site Denmark on Film.
Land of Mine on Oscar shortlist
OSCAR 2017. Martin Zandvliet and Nordisk Film's "Land of Mine" is voted through to the next round in the Oscar countdown. The five final nominees in the Foreign Language Film category will be selected on 24 January.
Esben Smed is Shooting Star in Berlin

BERLIN 2017. Esben Smed, who takes his first lead in "Amina's Letters" premiering in March, is selected as one of ten European Shooting Stars, the promotional platform for young actresses and actors set up during the Berlinale. Louis Hofmann, who features in Martin Zandvliet's "Land of Mine," is Shooting Star from Germany.

Jonas Elmer Filming Children's Film
IN PRODUCTION. Jonas Elmer is in production with the children's film "Jeg er William," based on a bestselling novel by renowned scriptwriter and children's book author Kim Fupz Aakeson. The film is expected to open in theatres in fall 2017.
Last Men in Aleppo to Sundance
FESTIVAL. The documentary "Last Men in Aleppo" will be world premiering at Sundance Film Festival in January. Feras Fayyad and Steen Johannessen have directed the Danish-produced film, which is made in collaboration with Aleppo's independent media centre AMC. Two films co-produced with Danes are also readying for Sundance.
New film hub in Ramallah
INTERNATIONAL. After three years in the works, Palestine's first film workshop, FilmLab: Palestine, has opened in Ramallah. The workshop, initiated in part with Danish support and consultancy, is to contribute to developing a Palestinian film culture and industry.
Short Film Makes Oscar Shortlist
OSCAR 2017. Aske Bang and M&M Productions' "Silent Nights" is one of ten short films on this year's shortlist for an Oscar nomination.
New black comedy from Ole Bornedal
UPCOMING FILM. Ole Bornedal's absurd comedy "Small Town Killers" starring Ulrich Thomsen and Nicolas Bro opens on 12 January.
