On 5 September, Tobias Lindholm's "A War" will be making its world premiere in the Venice Film Festival's Orizzonti competition.
"This film is my stab at processing Denmark's presence in Iraq and Afghanistan – a process I don't think has remotely begun," the director explains in our fall issue of FILM bringing interviews with a string of Danish directors taking their latest works to the festivals in Venice, Toronto, San Sebastian and Austin.
Martin Zandvliet, premiering his postwar drama "Land of Mine" in the Toronto Film Festival's new auteur competition, talks about his research into a lesser known chapter in recent Danish history. "I am not setting out to assign the blame or point fingers. It is interesting to see a movie that doesn't look at the Germans as though they were just monsters," as the director elaborates in FILM.
The magazine also features an interview with Rúnar Rúnarsson, whose coming-of-age drama "Sparrows" debuts in Toronto, and offers insight in Danish comedy with stories about Mikkel Nørgaard's "Klown Forever" and Anders Thomas Jensen's "Men & Chicken."
