Danish participation at the Berlinale 2014 now includes Michael Madsen and Final Cut for Real who are part of the documentary project "Cathedrals of Culture". Made up of six films by famed directors, "Cathedrals of Culture" is selected for Berlinale Special – in addition to Pernille Fischer Christensen's drama "Someone You Love".
"If buildings could talk, what would they say about us?" is the pivotal question in "Cathedrals of Culture", where each of the six filmmakers has directed a film exploring a culturally significant building and its "soul" in 3D.
Michael Madsen, who fascinated audiences in 2010 with his philosophical exploration of the world's first permanent nuclear waste repository in "Into Eternity", has directed a film about Halden Prison in Norway. The other directors are German Wim Wenders (Berlin Philharmonic in Berlin), Austrian Michael Glawogger (National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg), American Robert Redford (Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California), Norwegian Margreth Olin (Oslo Opera House) and Brazilian Karim Ainouz (Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris).
Danish Final Cut for Real, who were behind Joshua Oppenheimer's "The Act of Killing", is producing Michael Madsen's film and co-producing the remaining five films, together with main producer Neue Road Movies. Wim Wenders initiated "Cathedrals of Culture" and is executive producer.
