Berlin magazine out now

BERLIN MAGAZINE. Denmark's coolest superhero, Antboy, is on the cover of FILM, the Danish Film Institute's magazine, available now in print and online. Read interviews with all the Danish filmmakers in Berlin, Göteborg, Sundance and Rotterdam.

Ask Hasselbalch, Flemming Quist Møller, Jannik Hastrup and Joshua Oppenheimer are among the Danish directors on their way to Berlin. Meet the filmmakers in the Danish Film Institute's print and online magazine featuring interviews, backgrounds and news about the films at the Berlinale.

Ask Hasselbalch tells about the challenges of having his young, innocent superhero grow into a teenager in "Antboy – Revenge of the Red Fury." The animation partners Jannik Hastrup and Flemming Quist Møller share their vision for creating film for the youngest audience in their new adventure about the half-inch heroes "Mini and the Mozzies."

Christian Braad Thomsen writes about his relationship with German auteur Rainer Werner Fassbinder, whom he portrays in the documentary "Fassbinder – To Love without Demands, based on unpublished interviews he shot with the director in the 1970s. Joshua Oppenheimer, in Berlin with "The Look of Silence," reflects on how he sees his role as documentary filmmakers.

You can also read about Jannik Splidsboel's documentary "Misfits," about coming out in the Bible belt, Vladimir Tomic's memories from growing up on the refugee ship "Flotel Europa" and Vibeke Bryld's short "Pebbles at Your Door," about a North Korean woman's rude awakening. And then it's time to learn the name Joachim Fjelstrup. The 27-year-old actor landed his first film role as the lead in the major feature "Itsi Bitsi" straight out of acting school

FILM also features interviews about the Danish filmmakers currently attending Rotterdam, Göteborg and Sundance. Among them are Michael Noer's drama, "Key House Mirror," about finding love in the autumn years, and Michael Madsen's futuristic documentary "The Visit," investigating the possible reality of an alien invasion.
