The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Danish Film Institute (DFI) have announced an agreement to establish an incentive for the co-development of digital media projects between Canadian and Danish producers. The agreement was announced Monday, 20 March, at an event held during the Copenhagen film festival CPH:DOX.

The overarching objective of the incentive is to support the development of innovative digital media projects of high artistic quality and cultural value. The incentive encourages the exploration of new ways of telling stories, the experimentation with new formats and platforms and the research of new ways of engaging with audiences as well as encourages the exploration of new models for content development, distribution and sustainable business models.

The project must involve at least one Danish producer eligible under the DFI's criteria, and one Canadian producer eligible under the CMF's criteria.

"We are looking forward to this unique opportunity to working with the CMF, a frontrunner in promoting digital content to broad audiences. We hope and believe that this new collaboration will be hugely inspirational for producers and creatives in both our countries," says Claus Ladegaard, Head of Film Funding at the Danish Film Institute.

"We are pleased to be working with the Danish Film Institute. We believe this initiative will expose audiences from both countries to the quality and creativity, as well as the depth and diversity of Canadian and Danish digital media content," says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund.

The budget for the Canada-Denmark Co-Development Incentive for Digital Media Projects is set at CAD $300,000 (approx. DKK 1,500,000). Each project development can be supported with up to CAD $70,000 (approx. DKK 375,000).

Submissions will close on 12 December 2017. Projects will be chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from both the CMF and the DFI. Recipients will be announced in February 2018.

A number of initiatives aimed at cultivating partnerships between Canadian and Danish producers within digital media will be taking place in the months leading up to the submission deadline.
