The young forest prince Ivandoe and his squire Bert are the centre of attention in the new Danish-produced children's series "The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe," which has been picked up for launch in late 2017 by Cartoon Network EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa).
The series of ten three-minute episodes follows Prince Ivandoe, who is tasked by his father, The Mighty Stag, to go on a quest and return with the magical Golden Feather of the fearsome Eagle King. Accompanied by his squire Bert, Ivandoe embarks on an adventure through the forest, discovering an array of peculiar creatures along the way.
First original series from Denmark
The comedy series is created by Danish animators Christian Bøving-Andersen and Eva Lee Wallberg, who both graduated from The Animation Workshop in Viborg in 2012. The two also worked on Cartoon Network's "The Amazing World of Gumball" in London.
The new "Ivandoe" series is produced by Copenhagen-based Sun Creature Studio (the pilot by Copenhagen Bombay), which makes it one of the few Cartoon Network projects to be produced in Europe – and the first in Denmark. The Danish Film Institute's Public Service Fund, supporting the development and production of television drama and documentary, is funding the series.
Cartoon Network will be introducing a new, two-part release strategy with "Ivandoe." The series is set to launch as an interactive online game alongside the roll-out of the series on television, inviting the young viewers to participate in the quest of the valiant prince and his birdy squire.
Reaching new audiences
"With the Public Service Fund backing the series, Christian Bøving-Andersen and Eva Lee Wallberg managed to draw Cartoon Networks to Denmark. Collaborating like this with a big international player offers new opportunities for Danish animation to reach an even greater audience – locally and abroad," says Public Service Fund producer Nanna Mailand-Mercado.
