The War Premieres Saturday

The 72nd edition of the world's oldest film festival, which got off the ground 2 September with Baltasar Kormákur's UK-produced mountaineering thriller "Everest" as the opening film, marks the world premiere of "A War," Tobias Lindholm's story of a company commander, who in the heat of battle makes a decision that has grave consequences for him and his family back home.

"A War" is Lindholm's third feature film, after his prison drama "R" (2010, co-directed with Michael Noer) and "A Hijacking" (2012) about a freighter overtaken by Somail Pirates. The film is competing in the Orizzonti programme, with a press screening on 4 September and its first public screening on 5 September at 5.15 p.m. See trailer below

Co-production in Competition

Danish producer Riina Spørring Zachariassen immediately fell for Israeli director Yaelle Kayam and her feature project "Mountain" when the two first met at the Torino Film Lab in 2012. Now, the film is meeting its first big audience at the Venice Film Festival, moving on to the Toronto Film Festival later in September.

"Mountain" is the first official Israeli-Danish co-production and backed by the Danish Film Institute's programme for international film collaborations. The film premieres on 4 September at 5 p.m. in the Orizzonti competition.

The Danish Girl in Copenhagen

Tom Hooper's "The Danish Girl" marks the first Hollywood production to be supported by the Copenhagen Film Fund, established in 2013.

The film is a love story about one of the world's first transgender women, Lili Elbe, who was born in Denmark as Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener and was a successful artist.

The Copenhagen Film Fund supported the production with DKK 6m (EUR 0.81m), and over two weeks in March a British-Danish crew shot on location in the Danish capital. "The Danish Girl" features Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander and is showing in Venice's official competition from 5 September.
