A portrait of the Beat Generation writer Jack Kerouac 1922-69 recorded in his hometown Lowell, Mass., in 1997. Each year a group of beat aficionados organizes the event Lowell Celebrates Kerouac! A number of people tells about Kerouac: John Sampas, Anne Waldman, Lawrence Weiner, Conrad Rooks, and Joyce Johnson, Kerouac's girlfriend around the time of the publication of the novel On the Road (1957).
