The talking muse

Torben Skjødt Jensen, Denmark, 2003

103 min.DK/DocumentaryPortrait films

Asta Nielsen is seen as the spiritual godmother of many famous actresses. With her enormous dark eyes, mask-like face and slender, boyish figure she was the perfect diva. Between 1910 and 1932 she made 74 films. She is often called 'the first great international star'.

Due to more than 80 hours of nightly telephone conversations recorded on tape, between Asta Nielsen and the carefree, innovative personality, Frede Smith, Asta Nielsen's private life is revealed for the first time ever.
