On the track of a Danish smallholder

The story of poverty in rural Denmark, the lives of the smallholders and their struggle against the ruling classes in society right from the peasant revolt of the Middle Ages until the present time. Today, little remains of what was once the largest population group in Denmark. However, on the little island of Samsø we can find some of the very few smallholders to have been preserved. The soil is poor and sandy. One of these smallholdings belonged to a man named Peter Madsen.
