The mulatto

Knud Vesterskov, Denmark, 1998

47 min.DK/Short fiction

The Mulatto origins in the forgotten play of H.C. Andersen from 1834. The mulatto is the alter ego of Andersen, the man in the middle, neither white nor black. A film about racism. Social darwinistic hierachic classicfication hasn't brought the races to any closer understanding of each other. The film underlines that there is no blessing in being white, adult and civilised and that the myths are still thriving.
