Regner Grasten grew up strongly influenced by Danish film with his mother being a painter and director of art films and his father a screenwriter and film's critic. In 1985 he founded the production company Regner Grasten Filmproduktion together with his wife Tove Grasten.
Regner Grasten Filmproduktion started its production with several comedies, such as "The Fight for the Red Cow" (Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen og Ole Stephensen, 1987) and "The Red Thread" (Piv Bernth, 1989) starring the famous Danish orchestra Shu-Bi-Dua. Apart from comedies the company's profile was dominated by the production of children's and youth films, like the popular film-series about the Crumbs (1991-) and Anja & Viktor (1999-). With examples like "Stolen Spring" (Peter Schrøder, 1992), based on Hans Scherfig's novel by the same name, and "This Life" (Anne-Grethe Bjarup Riis, 2012), about a Danish family's resistance during WW2, the company began making broad-based films with Danish national and historical character. During the years Grasten has kept on focusing on producing children's and youth films like "Going to School" (2015), "One-Two-Three Now!" (2016) and "Kidbusters" (2017
