A cornerstone of the Danish Film Institute's activities for children is that they offered the chance to experience, understand and create motion pictures from an early age. Here is a presentation of the DFI's initiatives for children aged three to six.

Streaming universe

The media-learning universe 'Filmcentralen/For the youngest' is aimed to strengthen their cultural and digital skills of children aged three to six.

The universe features 300 short films, suggestions for activities based on the films and a selection of technical tools for working in the medium. The idea is for kindergarten teachers and children to explore the universe together, with the aim to support the children in becoming active, curious and critical users – and creators – of film and media.

School cinema

The initiative is based on the idea that a shared cinema experience can inspire productive conversation among children and adults about exciting subjects.

The programme presents short quality films for preschoolers and their parents plus kindergarten teachers, and it embraces new films and classics alike.

The children's cinema programme holds screenings at the Cinematheque in Copenhagen and in cinemas and libraries across the nation for local kindergartens.
