Danish Co-Production Wins the Palme d’Or in Cannes 2026

The Danish co-produced film 'Fjord' by Romanian director Christian Mungiu has won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The film is co-produced by Katrin Pors and Mikkel Jersin for Snowglobe and features strong Danish talent both in front of and behind the camera. Danish-Swedish actress Lisa Carlehed plays the role of Mia, while Kaspar Kaae composed the score. Kristian Eidnes Andersen is responsible for the film’s sound design and mix.

'Fjord' follows the married couple Lisbet and Mihai Gheorghiu, who move to a small village by a Norwegian fjord. There, they become friends with their neighbours, the Halberg family, and the two families’ children form close bonds despite differences in upbringing and values.

The leading roles are played by Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve and Romanian-born Sebastian Stan.

The film is distributed in Denmark by Øst for Paradis and supported by the Danish Film Institute.
