Danish producer among Europe’s most promising
Maria Møller Kjeldgaard from Manna Film has been chosen as one of 20 European producers for the renowned talent programme Producers on the Move, which takes place during the festival.
She graduated from Super16 in 2016 and holds a Master’s degree in Film Studies from the University of Copenhagen. She has produced nine short films, a web series, two feature-length documentaries, and four feature films.
Maria Møller Kjeldgaard has produced Isabella Eklöf’s 'Kalak' (2023), which won two awards at the San Sebastián IFF; Zara Zerny’s documentary 'Echo of You'(2024), which screened at IDFA; and Malene Choi’s 'The Quiet Migration' (2023), which screened at the Berlinale, where it won the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize. Most recently, she is producing Selma Sunniva’s debut feature 'Girl Beast' (2026), currently in post-production.
The aim of Producers on the Move is to strengthen emerging European producers’ networks within the international film industry and connect them with potential co-production partners. This is achieved through an intensive programme of meetings, pitching forums, case studies, social events, and press activities.
Her Private Hell
Nicolas Winding Refn’s thriller 'Her Private Hell' will screen out of competition. The cast includes Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Diego Calva, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, and Hidetoshi Nishijima.
'Her Private Hell' is produced in Denmark by byNWR Originals ApS and was shot in Copenhagen with a Danish film crew. The film is distributed by NEON.
In 2011, Refn won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for 'Drive'. Since then, his films 'Only God Forgives' (2013) and 'The Neon Demon' (2016) have competed for the Palme d’Or in the festival’s main competition.
A Danish DFI-supported co-production competes for the Palme d’Or
'Fjord' by Romanian director Christian Mungiu has been selected for the Official Competition. The film is co-produced by Katrin Pors and Mikkel Jersin for Snowglobe and stars Danish-Swedish actress Lisa Carlehed as Mia. Kaspar Kaae composed the score, and Kristian Eidnes Andersen handled sound design and mixing.
The film tells the story of Lisbet and Mihai Gheorghiu, a couple who move to a small village by a Norwegian fjord, where they befriend their neighbours, the Halberg family. The children of the two families form close bonds despite differences in upbringing and values.
Directors’ Fortnight
'Low Expectations' by Norwegian director Eivind Landsvik will have its world premiere in Cannes’ sidebar section Directors’ Fortnight. The film is co-produced by Mikkel Jersin and Oline Nordentoft for Snowglobe. Danish composer Frederikke Hoffmeier created the score, and Abebo Josephine Bø Getachew is responsible for costume design.
The film follows Maja, who collapses at the peak of her music career and must step away from her ambitions. Depressed and broke, she moves back home with her mother and works part-time at a local high school. Far from the spotlight and surrounded by everyday kindness, she slowly finds her way back to life.
Danish documentary at Cannes Docs
Christina Martiny Moltke will present her documentary 'All I Ever Wanted' at The Five Nordics Docs-in-Progress Showcase at Cannes Docs in the Marché du Film. The film is Moltke’s debut.
'All I Ever Wanted' is produced by Maria Kristensen and Esther Nissen for Final Cut for Real.
Nordic House in Cannes
The Danish Film Institute is part of the collaboration The Five Nordics with the other Nordic countries. During the festival, they jointly host the Nordic House at 11 Sq. Mérimée. This year, a new producer hub will be introduced for Nordic producers. Access to Nordic House does not require accreditation.
