Set in the Faroe Islands in 1862, 'No Rest for the Wicked' follows the fisherman Baldur, whose life is turned upside down when the Danish whaler Helge arrives on the remote island. A love story develops between the two men, challenging the norms of the isolated island community. When tragedy strikes, the story unfolds into a dark tale of love, fear, and supernatural forces.
The film is directed by Kaspar Kalle, written by Rasmus Birch, and produced by Lars Bredo Rahbæk for SF Studios with support from the Danish Film Institute. Pilou Asbæk stars opposite newcomer Egor Venned, with Sofia Nolsøe, Kjartan Hansen, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson also featuring in the cast.
'No Rest for the Wicked' opens in Danish cinemas on 3 September.
This year marks the 30th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival, taking place in Montreal from 16 July to 2 August. Fantasia is North America’s largest genre film festival, presenting an annual programme of horror, fantasy, science fiction, and animated films. The 2026 edition opened with the Canadian premiere of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell.
