BALOMANIA takes us deep into the heart of Brazil's favelas, where a secret society of giant hot air balloon makers risk everything to create and fly their illegal masterpieces, hoping to "paint the sky" with their vibrant colors. Despite being labeled as delinquents and dangerous by the authorities, these 'baloeiros' are akin to street artists, operating in secrecy while bringing joy to their communities and evading government threats and bounty hunters.
Under the exclusive guidance of legendary ‘baloeiros’, film director Sissel shares her remarkable initiation into the balloon brotherhood, where the art of launching monumental silk paper creations becomes an act of social redemption and of collective dreaming.
