Haiti 1971

Ib Makwarth, 1972

Film

Haiti. Uden titel

Jørgen Leth, 1996

Jørgen Leth has made Haïti his second home for a number of years. In his cinema verité-style, he delves into Haïti's past and present to explore the nation's crazy quilt of non-fiction fiction, fantastic realism, voodoo, myth, mystery and bare-knuckled politicts. All the while, Leth is on the alert, looking, listening, but avoiding the common trap of making righteous political and social statements.

Film

Ghosts of Cité Soleil

Asger Leth, 2005

Two brothers are stuck in a system of political violence. They are gangleaders in President Aristide's secret army of slum gangs. One wants to fight for the president, the other wants out.

Film

Drømmere

Jørgen Leth, 2002

A portrait of Haitian painters. They are dreamers, mystics, fantasts and storytellers. Jørgen Leth's film shows a Haiti, where creativity and optimism seem inexhaustible.

Film

Det legende menneske

Jørgen Leth, 1986

A personal essay on the play of children and grown-ups all over the world. The director has shot the film in different countries and cultures: Bali, Brazil, China, Denmark, UK, Haiti, Spain and the USA.

Film

De kalder mig hund

Frode Højer Pedersen, 1998

Film

Fra hjertet til hånden

Tómas Gislason, 1994

»I have my children in Denmark, and I live in Haiti.« In this way Jørgen Leth, poet, journalist, expert commentator of bicycle races and above all film director, starts his film - or rather the film about himself. For once Jørgen Leth is not behind the camera, but in front of it as the main character.
