Livsforsikringen

Jacob Thuesen, 2002

Ashley, an insurance salesman working for a wobbly company, receives a visit from Volmer Tafdrup, an unpleasant businessman, who is taking out a life insurance policy worth DKK 35 million. Ashley, who has few social skills, is paranoid, and has a poor memory, is assisted by Judith, his ever loyal secretary, who also has major psychiatric problems including a huge black hole in her heart which she is always talking about. Volmer Tafdrup chokes on a plum and dies just after he has signed, and Ashley's company faces a DKK 35 million pay-out.

Set on an isolated farm in Iceland, the film follows a seven-year-old boy who accidentally interrupts his older brother's suicide attempt. His brother makes him promise not to tell their parents, and the film examines the relationship between the two brothers in the aftermath using images of rugged scenery to express the young boys' inner turmoil and feelings of isolation.
