Salimah is a refugee from Myanmar, who has been living in Malaysia since she was a newborn. Her father and her older sister fled to Denmark when she was only 1 year old, so she has been staying with her aunt in Malaysia ever since her mother remarried a violent man. Salimah is 10 years old when she gets a chance to be reunited with her father.

Hassan and his family are refugees from Syria. They now live in Frederikshavn in the northern part of Denmark. Hassan is the best in his family at speaking Danish, and he often helps his parents when there is something they don't understand, and practice Danish words with them during dinner.

Jamila was born in a Danish refugee camp eight years ago. Her parents made it to Denmark from Iraq ten years ago. Jamila has had many friends but most only stayed for a short while.
