The film explores the sect’s techniques for recruiting and retaining members and examines the physiological and psychological landscape that gives a guru power over the minds and lives of his followers. In a hybrid format, documentary and fiction merge to recreate the experiences of former members and analyze the manipulation that causes people to surrender control of their thoughts, finances and actions.
