This Place We Call Our Home

Sybilla Tuxen, Thora Lorentzen, 2014

A documentary film from Ukraine, summer 14. With a main focus on imagery over dialog and with a fragmented storyline, the film depicts the conflict in Ukraine, and how it affects everyday life of those who stay at home; of those who is waiting. ”War” is normally understood as action, and the images we think of are the ones from a battlefield.

A House Made of Splinters

Simon Lereng Wilmont, 2022

In this war-worn and impoverished corner of Eastern Ukraine where addiction casts a long shadow, there sits a safe haven for children temporarily removed from their parents. A House Made of Splinters follows three kids awaiting their fate— will they go back or move on to a new home while a group of dedicated social workers create small moments of joy and respite from childhoods all but lost.
Filmmaker Simon Lereng Wilmont returns with a follow-up to his acclaimed first feature, The Distant Barking of Dogs, offering a unique look into how the long-term consequences of war on a society already under strain impacts the most vulnerable.

After Russia invades Ukraine, Pasha’s role in the school changes dramatically as he is reluctantly drawn into Putin’s propaganda machine. Børnene på Silkevejen 12:15 - Pige væk hjemmefra

Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko, 2023

In the countries of the Silk Road we meet 15 children – one character in each film – on the threshold of adolescence, who are all fighting for a space and an identity of their own, and who all show bravery by taking action on the things that matter to them. With recognizable themes – friendship, love, wishes for the future, parents’ ambitions – which is part of every child’s life, we hope to eliminate geographical and cultural gaps between our main characters and their Danish audience.
