The Balloon Family lives on a cheerful street surrounded by other balloon families. Meet Betty Ballon, a four-year-old daydreamer who’s always full of ideas. Dad Ballon runs the home, Mom Ballon invents crazy gadgets, and Big Brother Bobby Ballon, eleven years old, tries his best to act cool — even when things get a little... airy! They’re just a normal, modern family — except for one small detail: they’re balloons! Everyday life in the Balloon house is full of ups and downs (sometimes literally). Together they face all the funny little dramas of being a balloon family that has to stick together — through sunshine, wind, and the occasional storm.
Then one day, new neighbors move in across the street — the Cactus family! Mom and Dad Cactus, big sister Karla, and little Kaj Cactus, age four, are adjusting to a new neighborhood that’s fun but also wet, windy, and very un-cactus-like! Against all odds, Betty Ballon and Kaj Cactus become best friends. They spend their days coming up with clever and funny ways to play together — without popping Betty Ballon on Kaj Cactus’ prickly spikes or letting Kaj Cactus dry out in the cold and rain.
Betty Ballon celebrates the imagination of children and their amazing way of seeing possibilities where grown-ups only see problems. Through Betty Balloon’s eyes, we learn that being different is not something to fear — it’s what makes life wonderful.
