Large cinema auditorium for conferences, presentations and screenings
Bio Carl ("Carl Cinema") is the largest auditorium at Cinemateket, the Danish Film Institute's cinematheque in Copenhagen. It is a strong choice when up to 182 guests need to come together around the same programme.
The auditorium gives every guest a clear view of the screen and the area in front of it, while the lighting, sound and projection facilities help create focus around the content.
The floor area in front of the screen can accommodate a lectern, moderator table, panel discussions and award presentations. Bio Carl can therefore be used for professional events, product launches and film screenings.
The auditorium is named after Danish film director Carl Th. Dreyer and forms part of Cinemateket's distinctive cinematic setting.

AV and technical production
Bio Carl features 4K projection, a large cinema screen and a professional sound system. Handheld and headset microphones allow the setup to be adapted to presentations, panel discussions, interviews and questions from the audience.
The cinema supports 35 mm film, DCP, MP4, Blu-ray and HDMI connections from either Cinemateket's computer or your own device.
Before the event, we will review your presentation material and technical requirements with you. Where possible, we can also arrange a technical test before the event date.
For half-day and full-day conferences, an operator is present throughout the event. For other types of events, the agreed technical staffing will be specified in your proposal.
Make film part of your event
A film screening can be the main focus of your event or provide a memorable conclusion to a conference, product launch, reception or employee event.
If you would like to screen a feature film, documentary or other copyrighted production, Cinemateket's event team can assist with film recommendations, booking and screening rights.
We can also suggest relevant titles, including films from the Danish Film Institute's archive.
Catering before, during or after the programme
Restaurant SULT, operated by Meyers, can provide coffee, breakfast, refreshments, drinks and reception catering for your event. Catering is adapted to the programme, number of guests and the area booked for serving.
Drinks may be taken into Bio Carl. Food is served outside the auditorium, for example in the Foyer or another booked area.
For longer events, the professional programme in Bio Carl can be combined with a reception in the Foyer or with dinner and drinks on Filmtaget.
Combine Bio Carl with the rest of Cinemateket
Bio Carl can be booked on its own or used as the main auditorium for an event with several different elements.
By agreement, the adjoining Foyer can be used for one hour either before or after the event for arrivals, registration, breaks, refreshments or networking. If you need the Foyer for longer, additional time can be booked.
The Foyer is normally an open public area, and other visitors may therefore be present in the building. If you require a screened-off area, exclusive access or a particular layout, the available options should be agreed with the event team.
Filmtaget ("The Film Roof"), Cinemateket's 1,700 m² rooftop venue, can provide a more informal setting for a reception, dinner or drinks overlooking Copenhagen.
This allows you to combine a professional programme, film screening, catering and a social conclusion at the same address.
A central Copenhagen location
Cinemateket is located on Gothersgade beside the King's Garden, a few minutes' walk from Nørreport Station and the Metro.
This makes Bio Carl easy to reach for local guests as well as attendees travelling to Copenhagen by train.
The central location also makes it simple to combine the event with accommodation, dinner or other activities in the city.

- Can we show our own material or screen a film? Yes. You can show presentations, videos and your own film material using HDMI, MP4, Blu-ray or DCP. If you would like to screen a copyrighted film, Cinemateket's event team can assist with film recommendations, booking and screening rights for an additional fee.
- Can we use the Foyer before or after the event? Yes. By agreement, the Foyer can be used for one hour either before or after the event. Additional time can be booked if required.
- Can we arrange food and beverages? Yes. Food and beverages are provided by Restaurant SULT, operated by Meyers. Drinks may be taken into Bio Carl, while food is served in the Foyer or another area booked by agreement.
- Can we test our presentation before the event? Yes. Where possible, we can arrange a technical test before the event date. Set-up and breakdown on the day must take place within the booking period.
- Is cloakroom space available? Mobile coat racks can be placed close to the auditorium. This service is normally unattended, and belongings are left at the owner's risk. For larger events, we can investigate the possibility of a staffed cloakroom or locked storage area by prior agreement.
- Can Bio Carl be combined with Filmtaget? Yes. Bio Carl can be used for the main programme and Filmtaget for a reception, dinner or drinks. Both venues are subject to availability and must be booked as part of the overall event.
