Himmelbio – Outdoor cinema with a view of Copenhagen

Himmelbio ("Sky Cinema")  is Cinemateket’s modern outdoor cinema, located on Filmtaget ("The Film Roof"), our rooftop terrace. With 127 comfortable seats, a high‑brightness LED screen, and a professional sound system, Himmelbio provides an exclusive and distinctive setting for film screenings, presentations, and corporate events beneath the open sky.

Facilities at Himmelbio

Himmelbio offers modern amenities that make it easy to deliver high‑quality events. The 127 cinema seats are open to the sky with views across the city rooftops. A powerful LED screen ensures clear images in both daylight and in the evening, while the sound system is equally suited to films and spoken‑word presentations.

The cinema is fitted with an awning and side curtains, so your event can proceed even if the weather changes. Guests also have access to part of the rooftop terrace one hour before or after the booking -  ideal for receptions, networking, or wrap‑ups. Access is by elevator directly from Cinemateket’s foyer.

Catering and bar at Himmelbio

Adjacent to Himmelbio is a small bar that can serve drinks and light refreshments for your event. Catering is provided by our restaurant Spiseriet (“The Eatery”) and can include breakfast, beer, wine, cocktails, popcorn, or snacks -  before, during, or after the screening. Service takes place in the area next to Himmelbio.

Combine with the Filmtaget, our rooftop terrace

Himmelbio is integrated on Filmtaget - Cinemateket’s 1,700 m² rooftop terrace. Here you can expand your event with outdoor breaks, lounge areas, and additional activities.

Filmtaget accommodates up to 800 guests and, together with Himmelbio, creates a seamless experience in unique surroundings.

Central location in Copenhagen

Himmelbio is situated atop Cinemateket on Gothersgade, just a few minutes’ walk from Nørreport Station and the Metro. With Kongens Have (“the King’s Garden”) as a neighbour and the city’s cultural life on the doorstep, the location is both central and atmospheric.
