Doris Muñoz is an ambitious, young music manager whose undocumented family depends on her ability to launch pop stars. When she loses her biggest client, Doris hustles to discover new talent and finds Jacks — another daughter of immigrants for whom "making it" isn't a just dream: it's a necessity.

Doris Muñoz decided to become a music manager when she realized that the soundtrack of her teenage years didn't reflect her community. Raised in an undocumented Mexican family, Doris longed for Latinx indie musicians who sung in Spanglish, understood her experience, and looked familiar. So, she took matters into her own hands. Her first client was Cuco, an 18-year-old musician who went from playing backyard shows to sold-out concerts around the world. Doris’ talent for discovering musicians and paving their path to stardom is now the financial underpinning of her immediate family. But the music industry is volatile, the pandemic brought everything to a halt, and now Doris is unsure how she’ll continue to be her family’s breadwinner. Her parents, who have been living without legal documents for 30 years, have been unable to get steady work because of their legal status. Her brother, deported to Tijuana, saves money to send back to his daughter in the United States -- but it’s not enough to pay for his own rent. Left to foot their bills, Doris is launching a new artist: Jacks Haupt a 20-year-old Chicana musician from Texas who’s also the daughter of undocumented parents, and like Doris, dreams big. ‘Mija’ is about the resilience of immigrants and the children of immigrants. It’s a love letter to their indomitable spirit, untempered by global pandemics, professional adversity and personal loss.
