Parkland of Decay and Fantasy

An analogy between the spiritual and the digital world resides in the very moment of someone’s death as the person’s last thread of consciousness becomes the quality of his soul, existing in the universe as a form of wave, in certain sense similar to a text message being sent out from a phone. Taking place in an abandoned amusement park near an ‘avant-garde’ Chinese village that once was an artist utopia, the film intertwines the lives of several society outcasts as they address tales about death, paranormal activities and telepathy, while going about their lives in their own unique ways in search of meaning in life. Interlacing the physical, the spiritual and the virtual realities, Parkland of Decay and Fantasy depicts the layering of the poetics and politics of deserted space and explores the absurd gap between dream and reality of those individuals, resonating with the highs and lows of China’s rapid economy growth over the past 30 years.
