The European Film College

The European Film College (EFC) is seeking a full-time Production Management and Producing teacher for the 8 ½ month foundation course.

The European Film College is an internationally acclaimed 8,5 month film foundation course. The curriculum combines classroom instruction in the different areas of film making with extended production periods engaging the entire student body. The students are not specialized, but try out the different fields of filmmaking in four rounds of basic courses. In the spring the students can specialize and participate in shorter advanced courses.

The student body consists of 115 students from more than 30 countries. The school is a residential school were the students and teachers live on campus. The working environment is vibrant, creative and international with an emphasis on openness, diversity and quality. The working language is English.

The school has 30 permanent employees, including an international faculty, and a committed practical and administrative staff. In addition, an extensive network of Danish and international filmmakers visit the school as guest teachers. The school also operates the local cinema.

The position:

• To teach foundation-level students the skills and knowledge to carry out their role as Production Managers in EFC productions
• To teach the producer’s role and responsibilities on low budget productions
• To coordinate logistics of all school productions and extra-curricular student productions
• To monitor and assess student productions ahead of shooting
• Occasional lecturing and introductions to screenings
• Contribution to the student’s welfare and personal development within established structures
• To share practical responsibilities for the general running of the college including:
o Teacher of the Day: practical responsibility for the school and students, outside usual working hours on a rotating roster
o Coordination of student activities and social events
o Involvement in evening and weekend arrangements with students as required
o Active participation in faculty meetings

There is a concentrated workload during the course period (1650 hours during 8 ½ months, from mid August to mid May) but an extended summer break is provided as compensation, with full pay throughout the 12 months. In addition there is a three weeks fixed vacation over the Christmas period.

Selection Criteria

• Extensive production experience on professional projects, preferably including micro budget short film productions.
• The ability to prioritise, plan and organise productions and coordinate a high number of projects
• Understanding of the crew roles and process of a film production from beginning to end
• Understanding of and interest in emerging developments in production, financing and distribution
• The ability to be structured, flexible and able to work under pressure
• Good communication skills in English and strength in public speaking
• Highly developed social skills including the ability to relate to people from diverse background and cultures.
• Sense of initiative, maturity and good judgement
• Teaching experience an advantage
