Birgitte Thorsen Vilslev (English)

Birgitte Thorsen Vilslev is a PhD-fellow at SMK, National Gallery of Copenhagen, the Danish Film Institute, and the University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on Danish experimental film and aims at placing these works in an international art- and film historical context. Vilslev holds a degree in art history from the University of Copenhagen with a dissertation (2011) on Jacques Rancière's theory of the politics of aesthetics and aesthetics of politics, analyzing examples from contemporary video art as well as visual culture. 

Previously, she has worked at SMK with exhibitions on the Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard and the 1960s and 70s in Danish art. Vilslev also worked as an assistant curator at Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen. Presently, she is part of the editorial board of the art-historical journal Periskop.
