Addicted to Solitude

Jon Bang Carlsen, Denmark, 1999

60 min.DK/Documentary

After the fall of apartheid a Danish film director arrives in South Africa. Instead of making the film he has intended he finds himself submerged in solitude listening to reflections of two white South African women of different backgrounds. "I travelled to South Africa to find a white family on a desolate farm and film how they faced the new days of equality after Apartheid, but I soon lost my way both on the endless roads and in my mind. Instead the film became a story about two different white women who both experienced tragic losses in the midst of a white community that wasn't too fond of the future." The film won 1st prize at Nordisk Panorama in Reykjavik 1999.
