15 Danish films have been selected to this year's Göteborg International Film Festival, which takes place from 25 January to 5 February in Sweden.
Michael Noer's "Nordvest" and Tobias Lindholm's "A Hijacking" are selected for the Nordic Competition. In 2010, Noer and Lindholm won the award for Best Nordic Film as co-directors of "R".
Michael Noer's second feature film "Nordvest" is a gangster film set in the suburbs of Copenhagen. Casper (18), the oldest of 3 siblings, survives life on the streets by committing burglaries for the neighbourhood boss, Jamal. When Casper gets an offer to work for Jamal’s rival Björn, he jumps at the chance for a better life, making his way into a world of drugs and prostitution. As things escalate between Björn and Jamal, Casper finds himself and his family dead center of a conflict, that threatens to destroy them.
"Nordvest" is written by Rasmus Heisterberg and Michael Noer and produced by René Ezra and Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film with support from the Danish Film Institute.
The cast includes Gustav Dyekjær Giese, Oscar Dyekjær Giese, Nicholas Westwood Kidd, Roland Møller, Lene Maria Christensen and Dulfi Al-Jaburi.
Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt" is presented at a gala event, and Nagieb Khaja's "My Afghanistan - Life in the Forbidden Zone" and Camilla Magid's "White Black Boy" are selected for the Best Nordic Documentary competition.
