"The Art of Crying" competing for an Oscar nomination

Peter Schønau Fog's film "The Art of Crying" is chosen as the Danish entrant for the 80th Academy Award Nominations, in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. This decision was made unanimously by the Danish Selection Committee comprised of representatives from the Danish film industry and the DFI.

Bo Hr Hansen wrote the screenplay, which is based on a novel by Erling Jepsen. Thomas Stenderup produced for Final Cut Productions.

Peter Schønau Fog's critically acclaimed feature film debut "The Art of Crying" has sold 228,000 tickets in Danish cinemas and screened at a number of prestigious festivals worldwide. The film has won 13 international awards since its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in 2006.

"The Art of Crying" is one of the 42 candidates chosen by the European Film Academy to run for the EFA Awards 2007. The film is also nominated for a Nordic Council Film Prize.

On two previous occasions the Oscar has been awarded to a Danish feature film: In the category of Best Foreign Language Film, Gabriel Axel won the award in 1988 for "Babette's Feast", and in 1989, Bille August received the Oscar for "Pelle Erobreren". This year Susanne Bier's "After the Wedding" received a nomination in the same category.

Oscar nominations will be announced 22 January 2008, while Oscar night is set for 24 February 2008.
