Best year at the cinema since 2009

BOX OFFICE. Danish cinemas sold 13.8 million tickets in 2015, a 16 % increase from 2014, according to official numbers from Statistics Denmark. Danish films sold 4.1 million tickets, which is an increase of 26 %.

Official numbers from Statistics Denmark has confirmed the conclusion from our overview in January, based on the preliminary results issued by the distributors' organisation FAFID: Danish cinemas sell more tickets.

Specifically, 13.8 million in 2015, which is an increase of 16 % from 2014 and the highest number since 2009.

Danish films are increasingly popular and had a 30 % market share in 2015. In the 90's, the national market share was an average of 18 %. In the 00's, the share had risen to 26 % on average, and since 2010, an average of 28 % sold tickets have been for Danish films.

The most popular Danish film in 2015 was "Klown Forever," selling 512,000 tickets. A total of 35 Danish films, including documentaries, opened in 2015.
