When Göteborg International Film Festival launches its 31st edition on Friday, January 25, it will be with a wide representation of Danish films in the festival programme.
Nordic CompetitionOf the eight feature films in the main competition for Best Nordic Film, three are by Danish directors: Natasha Arthy’s "Fighter", Ole Bornedal’s "Just Another Love Story" and Omar Shargawi’s feature film debut "Go With Peace Jamil".
The three films are currently much sought-after on the international festival circuit: ”Fighter” will be running in the youth programme in Berlin in a good two weeks times, ”Just Another Love Story” is currently among the 16 films in Sundance’s World Cinema Competition, and ”Go With Peace Jamil” will have its international premiere in the main competition at Rotterdam starting this Wednesday, January 23.
Nordic Light and FIPRESCI prizePresenting ”the best of the latest from our four Nordic neighbours” in the section Nordic Light, the festival has invited yet another four Danish films: Jannik Johansen’s ”White Night”, Anders Morgenthaler’s ”Echo”, Michael Christoffersen’s documentary ”Milosevic on Trial” and Lars von Trier’s three-minute short ”Occupations”.
Furthermore, Jacob Thuesen’s ”The Early Years”, based on von Trier’s film school reminiscences, will be competing for the international critic’s award, the FIPRESCI Prize.
