‘Home’ will have its world premiere at one of Northern Europe’s largest film festivals, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), in the festival’s prestigious competitive programme Big Screen Competition. The programme bridges popular cinema, classics, and arthouse films, and is dedicated to supporting the distribution of the nominated films in the Netherlands.
In 1991, six-year-old Maja flees with her parents to Denmark, while her brothers are left behind in the Balkans. Maja’s mother and father struggle to adapt, but soon realize that Denmark is far from the promised land they had dreamed of. Maja quickly learns the foreign language and thus ends up taking on responsibility for her parents. Many years later, she has become a successful artist in Denmark, but behind her success she carries a sense of division between joy, sorrow, and gratitude for the life she has been given and for the choices and sacrifices her parents made and paid for.
‘Home’ is directed by Marijana Jankovic and produced by Mads-August Grarup Hertz for Nordisk Film Production. The cast includes Dejan Cukic, Nada Šargin, Tara Cubrilo, and Jesper Christensen, among others.
