Sunday night on February 3, the Danish Film Academy awarded the best Danish films of 2018. The big winner was the Oscar-shortlisted thriller 'The Guilty', directed by Gustav Möller. The intense one location film took home seven prizes including best film, best director and best original screenplay. The film had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival last year, where it took home the audience award in the international competition.
The Danish animation film 'Checkered Ninja' by Anders Matthesen won three awards, including best children & youth film as well as best adapted screenplay. The film is quickly becoming the best-selling Danish film of all time with over 750.000 tickets sold since its premiere in December last year.
'A Fortunate Man' from two-time Academy Award winner Bille August also took home three awards, including best actress in a leading role (Katrine Greis-Rosenthal).
Lars von Trier's 'The House That Jack Built' was awarded two Roberts in the technical categories for cinematography (Manuel Alberto Claro) and best visual effects (Peter Hjorth). The fourth film in the popular 'Department Q'-franchise won one award after selling more than 750.000 tickets in the Danish cinemas.
Simon Lereng Wilmont's Oscar-shortlisted documentary feature 'Distant Barking of Dogs' won the award for best Danish documentary, after having travelled the world on the international festival circuit.
In the realm of TV series, 'Rides Upon the Storm' season 2 won best TV series as well as best actor (Lars Mikkelsen) and best actress (Ann Eleonora Jørgensen) in a TV series. Lars Mikkelsen previously won an Emmy for his role in the series.
