Short film in competition

CANNES 2013. Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson's Danish-Icelandic "Whale Valley" is one of nine short films selected for Cannes Competition.

Among the nine short films selected for the 66th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson's Danish-Icelandic short film "Whale Valley". The film is produced at the Film Workshop at the Danish Film Institute.

The film shows a strong bond between two brothers that live in a remote fjord with their parents. We look into their world through the eyes of the younger brother and follow him on a journey that marks a turning point in the lives of the brothers.

Icelandic director Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson lives and works in Denmark. His previous short film, "Artun", was also made through the DFI Film Workshop. Gudmundsson was assistant director on Rúnar Rúnarsson's Danish-produced "Volcano" which enjoyed its world premiere in Directors' Fortnight at 2011's Cannes festival.
 
The director has produced together with Icelandic Anton Máni Svansson. Danish Jacob Oliver Krarup and Darin Mailand-Mercado co-produced with Icelandic Rúnar Rúnarsson. Production company is Fourhands Film which is also handling international sales.

The 66th Cannes Film Festival opens on 15 May with this year's jury led by director Jane Campion. The official selection for the main competition will be announced on 18 April.
