Today at the Haugesund film festival, Thomas Vinterberg's 'Submarino' was honoured with the Critic's Award.
The Jury's motivation:
'Submarino' "uses a film language that although raw, has a purity and confidence in its form. In choosing a very deliberate structure, the director makes it impossible to ignore the fates of the characters depicted. The portrayal of deplorable human circumstances is also a gesture of great humanism. The actors deliver remarkable and powerful performances. The film is complete in form, while also giving a mindblowing punch.
'Submarino' is one of the five Nordic films nominated for a Nordic Film Prize 2010 and one of three films on the DFI-appointed Oscar-committee's shortlist.
The film was released in Denmark to enthusiastic reviews in March, and sales have been sealed for a number of European countries, as well as territories in Asia and South America.
