Tribeca invites three Danish films

A strong Danish selection will participate in the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival (22 April – 3 May). In the line-up is a feature film debut, a thriller drama and a documentary co-production.

The Danish-Swedish director duo Alexander Brøndsted and Antonio Tublén participate in the Discovery section with "Original", marking a world premiere for the up-and-coming Scandinavian duo's feature film debut. Inspired by directors such as Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson and the Coen brothers, "Original" is an off-beat comedy about a burdened young man struggling to break free from everyone’s expectations. Produced by Carsten Holst for Zentropa.Levring in Spotlight
Kristian Levring's "Fear Me Not" is selected for Spotlight, a section dedicated to films that are already acquired for US distribution, but not yet released. Levring, who is one of the founding Dogme brothers, has Ulrich Thomsen featuring in a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde-inspired story about a man slowly losing his civilization. "Fear Me Not" is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa and will premiere later this year in the US according to the film's American distributor IFC.Controversial documentary
Competing in the World Documentary Feature section is Yoav Shamir's "Defamation", a Danish-Austrian-US-Israeli co-production investigating the many faces of modern-day anti-Semitism. The film, whose Danish co-producer is Karoline Leth of SF Film Productions, showcased in Berlin Film Festival's Forum section. Director Yoav Shamir stands on the success of his previous documentary "Checkpoint", which received more than 20 awards including a first prize at IDFA.
