FESTIVAL. Valhalla Rising, by Nicolas Winding Refn, is selected to screen at New York's BAMcimenaFEST this weekend.

Nicolas Winding Refn's "Valhalla Rising" is selected to screen at New York's BAMcimenaFEST (9-20 June 2010). IFC Films released the film in US theatres on 4 June.

Concluding his review on "Valhalla Rising", Anton Bitel wrote "It is yet another string to Refn's bow, consolidating his position as one of the most consistently exciting and versatile auteurs working in Europe today." In the March edition of the French film magazine Positif, "Valhalla Rising" is compared to Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey" from 1968. Read more about the French appraisal of Refn's opus in the press release French praise to Valhalla Rising.

In "Valhalla Rising" Mads Mikkelsen plays a warrior of supernatural strength, a misfit, by the name of One-Eye, a man who journeys to a fabled land where he discovers his true self. The New York Times elaborate on the actor in their portrait of 3 June Sex Symbol With an Unearthly Twist.

"Valhalla Rising" is produced by Johnny Andersen, Bo Ehrhardt and Henrik Danstrup with co-producer Karen Smyth for Nimbus Film Productions ApS, One Eye Production, La Belle Allee Productions Ltd, Scanbox Entertainment A/S and Blind Eye Productions.

BAM, America's oldest continuously operating performing arts center, introduced the BAMcinemaFEST two years ago. The festival programme includes some 20 feature films, short fiction films and open-air screenings.
