Maia (23), lives with her grandmother, Nora, on the family’s conventional cattle farm that has been passed down through generations and which they both dream of Maia taking over. After a devastating storm causes an accident on the farm and Maia clashes with the new, eco-minded neighbors, Maia begins to grasp the disturbing scale of climate change. She is struck by eco-anxiety and decides to dedicate herself to the battle for climate action. In her passionate but somehow naive attempt to convince her grandmother and the people closest to her about the dire future of the planet – and their own role in it – she is faced with incomprehension and apathy, putting Maia’s identity and relationships with her grandmother at risk. Can Maia find a balance between saving the planet and preserving her roots or will her fight for the future cost her everything she holds dear? Maia against the World is a heartfelt and humoristic climate drama about generational divides, eco-anxiety - and cows.
