A play within a play with a difference: In rugged West Jutland country, a schoolteacher sets out to produce Kaj Munk's "Ordet" (cf. Carl Th. Dreyer's film version) for the annual assembly house amateur theatricals. When casting, he finds himself faced with exactly the kind of liberal and fundamentalist Lutherans that Munk and Dreyer describe. Art and reality now merge in the strangest ways.
