Atlantic Decade

Denmark, 1960

28 min.DK/Documentary

NATO's story is told in dramatic retrospect from the first meeting in 1947 to developments of the late 1950s. The first decade is seen to be a period of economic progress for all fifteen nations of the alliance, and one of strengthening resolve to maintain peace through preparedness. This film visits the fifteen countries in turn, recognizing in each the values and traditions best known to the world. The film outlines the operational structure of the NATO alliance and shows how its purposes of peace-through-preparedness are supported by the economic and military resources of the member nations.
