Vilhelm Ludvig Peter Thomsen (1842-1927). Professor of comparative linguistics at the University of Copenhagen 1887-1913. President of the Royal Danish Society of Sciences 1900. The society is closely connected to the Carlsberg Foundation, which was founded in 1876 by brewer Jacob Christian Jacobsen (1811-1887).
