Becoming infatuated by an actor, countess Cora leaves her husband and takes to the stage herself. When she becomes successful, the actor grows jealous and deceives her. With her world in ruins, she is reconciled with her husband, only to once again let herself be seized by passion for the actor. The love triangle has a tragic end.
