The Quiet Migration invited to the Berlinale

BERLINALE. Malene Choi's 'The Quiet Migration' is invited to the Panorama section of the Berlinale.

Malene Choi's first feature film 'The Quiet Migration' will celebrate its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in February. Choi has written the drama with Sissel Dalsgaard Thomsen.

'The Quiet Migration' revolves around on transnational adoption and the difficult formation of kinship in adoptive families.

Carl, 19, lives a quiet life in the Danish countryside with his adoptive parents, who expect him to take over the family farm one day, continuing their traditions. But Carl begins to feel the pull of two worlds – "home" plus his native homeland, South Korea – and the day is fast approaching when he will have to choose.

As Carl, Cornelius Won Riedel-Clausen takes on his first major role. Also, featured are among others, Bodil Jørgensen and Bjarne Henriksen.

Director Malene Choi, an adoptee from South Korea herself, grew up in Denmark. She graduated as a documentary filmmaker from the National Film School of Denmark in 2005. Her previous film 'The Return' a hybrid film, also deals with adoption. The film received Special Mentions at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and at the Gothenburg Film Festival in 2018.
