Filmen spænder over to årtier fra 1988 og frem og udspiller sig på fem forskellige dage i fem menneskers liv. Marie-Jeanne og Robert Duval har tre børn: Albert, Raphaël og Fleur. Hver af disse mennesker har deres egen tilgang til livet og på lige præcis disse fem dage indtræffer afgørende brydningspunkter i deres tilværelse, hvor uventede følelser og opgør i familiens skød får betydning for deres fremtid.
